Citizenship · N-400
U.S. citizenship
For permanent residents ready to take the final step.
What is it?
With Form N-400 you apply for naturalization, that is, to become a U.S. citizen. After you file, USCIS schedules your fingerprints and your interview, where you also take the English and civics test.
Generally, you can apply after 5 years of residence, or 3 if you're married to and living with a U.S. citizen. USCIS accepts the application up to 90 days early.
